Turkey Time

Turkey?? Yes, that's right I have to blog all the way back to November and play catch up. I have no excuses other than not wanting to sit down and type up our stories. Winter makes me cold and lazy.
This last Thanksgiving we had our traditional Thanksgiving Day at my mom's house. Sean always has to remind me and tell all about the Thanksgiving Feasts he had growing up. He really gets homesick during the holidays. I don't know which he misses more all the amazing food, California weather or having all his family around. I would say his family probably wins out.
Sean decided this year he will make the turkey. Guaranteeing it would be excellent. After getting drilled over and over by my mother on how he was going to cook the turkey, she finally gave him my grandparents roaster over and backed away. I did my part and volunteered to make a dessert. Since I was making it, I made something I wanted to eat (http://www.kevinandamanda.com/whatsnew/new-recipes/ultimate-chocolate-chip-cookie-n-oreo-fudge-brownie-bar.html). I found this amazing adaptation to the cookie brownie on pinterest  (my new best friend) and enjoyed every second of it!
Sean spent Wednesday night prepping the turkey and making sure he remembered what he had to do and when he needed to start cooking the bird. I spent Wednesday night making adorable hair clips for Killian and my niece Sadie.

We were going to eat the Thanksgiving meal at 1:00 so that people could visit other family members as well. Sean set his alarm to wake up at the crack of dawn to start cooking the turkey. Meanwhile, I slept for a bit longer with the kids. And by bit I mean like 5 minutes. Our kids LOVE to wake up before the sun. Killian, Jameson and I made our way to the living room as Sean was finishing up in the kitchen so we decided to have a small breakfast and relax on the couch with a good movie.
When the timer went off at the half way point (2 hours) Sean went and checked on the turkey. Let me just say our house smelled amazing. Turkey- good, Brownies- good, Cookies- good! It doesn't get much better than that. All of a sudden I hear " What the ...." from the kitchen. I asked what was wrong and Sean said "The meat thermometer must be broken because it says the turkey is done!" WHAT?!?!? This lead to arguing over the fact that this was supposed to cook for 4 hours and it's only 8:30 AM this turkey can not be done. This called for an emergency phone call to the all powerful and all knowing Momma Somma! Remember this is at 8:30ish our time, so 6:30ish California time. Sorry! After discussing the situation they decided that the turkey is in fact done, the roaster oven must be very powerful and awesome, and that it would be best to go ahead carve the turkey and then heat it back up when we are supposed to eat. Problem solved thanks to Momma Somma- what would we do without her?!?
Since the turkey was done so early we got to relax for a bit more before heading over to the house. Once we got there Sean filled everyone in on the turkey fiasco, had some laughs and we all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving lunch.

PS- the brownie-cookie-cookie dessert was amazing too!
